The Problem With ‘God Will Provide’

God will provide is a common phrase in the Black community, which is divided into two streams of thought:

(1) Those that believe God will provide
(2) Those that believe it is up to you to plant the seeds and God will provide the rest

I fall in the second category. We all know God is almighty and he can create miracles, but he does not exist simply to grant our wishes. God is not a genie.

He wants to ease our suffering and he wants us to lean on him when things get tough. For this reason, God does not give us everything we want, he gives us what we need.

However, sometimes God tests us to see how much we yearn for what we say we want. This is where we have to exert our freewill and take action. We have to met God halfway. Sometimes the miracle or breakthrough we are looking for rests in our own hands but we will not get out of our own way. We cannot always rely on God to do everything for us, we have to take charge of our life.

No one is going to knock on your door and offer you a job. No one is going to pull into your driveway and offer you a new car. No one is going to walk up to you and hand you a check to start your own business.

One of the most critical parts of being a happy person and having a positive circle involves autonomy. You have to be determined to go after what you want as you look to God for guidance. God provides for those who seek.
